Brands Like Zara: 7 Ranked, Scored, and Priced

The want underneath the search: this season's silhouette, in a cloth that survives the season.

Checked and updated October 2026

The verdict, up front: seven brands scored out of 100 on the published brand basis: fabric and cloth 30, construction and craft 20, fit range and sizing honesty 20, value 15, longevity 15. Asket wins at 92, the anti-Zara: the same plain, current register sold as a permanent collection with its costs published. Uniqlo is second at 84, the honest version of fast. The anchor, Zara, is printed in the open at its standing 48, sixth of seven on its own page: the speed and the silhouette are real, and the cloth and the longevity are the bill. And the named skip sits below the anchor, at 24: the class that sells the silhouette as a photograph. The ladder's whole job is to move the Zara reader up it, one honest row at a time.

What people actually want from Zara

The want under this search is speed with a silhouette attached. It is the shape of the season, this month, at a price that feels like a rounding error: the wide trouser, the boxy jacket, the knit the runways showed in spring, on a rail by autumn and in a bag by Friday. It is a whole outfit in one visit, trousers, shirt, layer and shoes in a single register, without a stylist or a second store. And underneath both, it is not being the man still wearing last decade's cut: Zara sells currency, and currency is a real want, and this page does not pretend otherwise.

What the anchor does well is exactly that want: the pattern library is genuinely good, the fits are graded by people who know what this season's trouser is doing, and the range turns over faster than any rival on this page. What it does badly is everything that happens after the purchase. The cloth is the thinnest in its class, the construction is finished to the photograph, and the longevity row, 3 of 15, is the honest summary: a Zara piece is not bought, it is rented from the season, and the rent is about $50. Those numbers are printed in its card below, sixth of seven, in the open, at the same 48 this site prints for it everywhere.

How the scores work

Same ruler as every brand ranking on this site, published on our methodology page: fabric and cloth out of 30, construction and craft out of 20, fit range and sizing honesty out of 20, value out of 15, longevity out of 15. Five of the seven brands here already carry scores from our roundups and family pages and keep them, because a ranking that changes its numbers between pages is not a ranking: Asket's 92 from the Scandinavian ranking, Uniqlo's 84 from the Japanese ranking, Massimo Dutti's 71 from its own page in this family, and COS's 70 and Zara's 48 from our A.P.C. page, where both cards also stand, COS above Zara. Mango Man and Shein are scored fresh on the same basis.

Asket

US price at last check: the T-Shirt $70; the Loose Twill Chino $230.

The call: the anti-Zara, and the distance between the two business models is the whole page. Where the anchor runs weekly drops designed to be replaced, Asket runs one permanent collection of plain pieces, sized on a grid honest enough to take a perfect 20 in the fit row, with the cost of every garment published down to the trims. The register is the one the Zara reader is shopping for: current, plain, unshouted. The cloth is the version of it that survives the year, at 28 of 30 against the anchor's 13. It tops our Scandinavian ranking at this same 92. Buy the grid, piece by piece, and the seasons stop billing you.

Uniqlo

US prices at last check: the U crew-neck tee $15 to $30.

The call: the honest version of fast, keeping the 84 from our Japanese ranking. Uniqlo sells the wardrobe underneath the trend: the U tee, the plain knit, the Oxford, the straight trouser, in honest cotton at prices that match or beat the anchor's, with a perfect 15 on value because the cloth is not the thinnest available blend. What it refuses to sell is this month's silhouette, which is precisely the anchor's whole offer. Read the two cards together and the trade is printed: currency at 48, or foundations at 84. Most wardrobes need the foundations first, and this ranking is not embarrassed to say so on the anchor's own page.

#3 · 71/100 The Step-Up

Massimo Dutti

US prices at last check: shirts $130 at the US store; the 100% wool blazer about $350.

The call: the sibling step-up, keeping the 71 from its own page in this family, where it stands as the anchor. The family fact is the story: Massimo Dutti and Zara share a parent in Inditex, and the older sibling is what the younger one's customer grows into: shirts at $130, a 100 percent wool blazer at about $350, leather and suede in the range, cloth with actual weight to it. It is scored 23 points above its sibling on the same ruler, and the whole gap is materials and restraint. If the want is Zara's ease with the training wheels off, the answer is inside the family, one floor up.

COS

US prices at last check: shirts and knits typically $99 to $150.

The call: the silhouette dealer from the other group, keeping the 70 from our A.P.C. page. COS is the high street's most convincing answer to the Zara want: the drape, the palette and the proportion of the season, at typically $99 to $150, in stores that feel like galleries. The deductions are the ones this family of pages always finds at this tier: cloth a step thinner than the price suggests, construction a step lighter, and a range refreshed by season, which is the anchor's model wearing better tailoring. Buy the shape here when the shape is the whole point. Know that the two brands above it sell permanence to the same eye.

Mango Man

US prices at last check: shirts and knits typically $36 to $70.

The call: the other Spanish high street, scored fresh. Mango Man aims the same model a few years older: the Mediterranean cut, the knit polo, the linen shirt, at typically $36 to $70, and on average the cloth is a half-step more honest than the anchor's, with suede and leather lines the anchor does not attempt. The ceiling is the model's own: seasonal drops, construction finished to the rail, and a longevity row of 5 that says plainly what a decade of these purchases adds up to. It beats the anchor by ten points and loses to everything above it by more. A half-step is not a staircase.

#6 · 48/100 The Anchor

Zara

US price at last check: about $50.

The call: scored in the open at its standing 48, the same figure this site prints on the A.P.C. and Massimo Dutti pages. Read the rows as the brand's own confession: fit at 15 is the best of them, because the pattern library and the speed are real skills; fabric at 13 and longevity at 3 are what those skills are spent on. The plain grey sweatshirt that looks identical to the winner's in the product shot is grey a different way by the third wash. Zara is not the worst buy on this page. It is the second worst, and it is the one with the best shops, which is the whole problem in one sentence.

Shein

US prices at last check: most pieces under $15.

The call: the floor, scored fresh so the ladder has one. Below the anchor, the model stops pretending: the silhouette is a photograph on a marketplace listing, the cloth is polyester-dominant at weights this site does not score anywhere else, the sizing varies piece to piece because the pieces come from different sellers, and the working life of the garment is counted in washes, not seasons. At under $15 a piece it is the cheapest clothing on this page and, on any honest division, among the most expensive: the cost is paid per wear, in public, in a garment that looks tired by the third outing. This is what the anchor's 48 is protecting you from, and it is the only compliment this page pays it.

The pattern under the ranking

Read the ladder by its fabric row and it reads itself: 28, 22, 20, 20, 16, 13, 5, the ranking in order, without a single inversion. At the high street there is no design story to hide behind, no heritage, no hardware, nothing on the garment but cloth and cut, so the cloth row is the ranking, and every brand here is simply its fabric score with a business model attached. The second pattern is the family one: the anchor's own sibling stands 23 points above it on the same ruler, which means the group knows exactly what the extra money buys. It sells both. This page exists so the reader chooses which one he is paying for.

The Skip · 24/100

The marketplace class under $15 a piece, Shein its largest name, is this page's named loser, and it is named so the floor is on the record. Every other failure on this site is a garment that underdelivers; this class is a listing that delivers a photograph's promise in a cloth that cannot hold it, sized by lottery, finished for the camera, and done within the month. The anchor above it, at 48, is a bad buy with good pattern-makers. This is not a buy at all, at any price, because the price per wear of a three-wear garment is the highest arithmetic in clothing. The ladder starts at 92. Buy as high up it as the budget reaches, and never below the anchor.

Which one to buy

If you buy one thing: the Asket tee at $70, on the sizing grid, and let it reset what a plain piece is supposed to feel like. If the budget is the whole story: Uniqlo foundations, the U tee and the straight trouser, and skip the trend entirely this season. If you want the grown version of the same shop: Massimo Dutti, the anchor's own sibling, one floor up in every sense. If you only want the look for a season: COS, eyes open, at $99 to $150. If you are standing in the anchor's store: the fitting room is the honest part; buy nothing the cloth row would not sign. The rest of this family scores the minimal want in brands like A.P.C., the sibling in brands like Massimo Dutti, and the quiet end of this whole argument in the quiet luxury index.

Questions, answered

What brand is most like Zara but better quality?

Asket, scored 92 on this page, and it is the anti-Zara in method as much as in register: one permanent collection instead of weekly drops, plain pieces cut on an honest sizing grid, and the cost of every garment published. The look it shares with the anchor is the plain, current silhouette. The difference is everything underneath it: cloth scored 28 of 30 here against Zara's 13, and a garment built to be the last one you buy in its category, not this month's.

Is Massimo Dutti better than Zara?

Yes, on every row this site scores, and the two are siblings: both belong to Inditex, with Massimo Dutti aimed a decade older and a register quieter. It scores 71 on this page to Zara's 48, keeping the anchor score from its own page in this family. The gap is in the materials: shirts at $130 against about $50, real wool blazers at about $350, leather in the range. It is the same group's answer to the same customer, grown up: if the want is Zara's ease with the training wheels off, the step up is inside the family.

Why does Zara score 48?

Because the brand basis scores what a garment is, and Zara's rows are a split decision: fit and range at 15, because the pattern library and the speed are real, against fabric at 13 and longevity at 3, because the cloth is the thinnest in its class and the seasons are counted in washes. We print the same 48 wherever the brand appears on this site, on the A.P.C. and Massimo Dutti pages in this family. Speed is a service. It is not a fabric, and on a page that scores fabric it cannot rescue the total.

What is a cheaper alternative to Zara that lasts longer?

Uniqlo, scored 84 on this page with a perfect 15 on value. The foundation pieces, the U tee at $15 to $30, plain knits, plain shirts, cost the same or less than the anchor's equivalents and outlast them by years, because the cloth is honest cotton rather than the thinnest available blend. What it will not give you is the silhouette of this month: Uniqlo sells the wardrobe under the trend, not the trend itself. For the trend's shape at a sane construction, COS at 70 is the middle answer.

Is Shein worse than Zara?

Yes, and this page prints the distance: 24 against 48. Zara's clothes are at least patterned, graded and sold in stores by a company with a pattern library; the class below it is the silhouette as a photograph, listed by marketplace sellers, sewn from polyester-dominant cloth with sizing that varies piece to piece and a working life counted in washes. We name it as this page's skip so the ladder has an honest floor. The anchor at 48 is a bad buy. The floor at 24 is not a buy at all.

How this ranking stays honest

Scores follow our published methodology and are re-checked on the cadence in the byline. Five of these seven scores are standing scores carried from the pages named in the scores section, reproduced with their rows and price notes intact; the two fresh scores were made on the same basis this session. Prices are US prices at last check from the makers' stores and our own roundups; where a line prices in a band, the card prints the band and says so. When a maker changes cloth or price materially, the score moves and the move is noted here.
